SO we did it!!!!! What an amazing experience, we could not of done this without the help of the BBC. They have gone above and beyond our expectations. What a transformation. We have everything we could of possibly dreamed of and more.
Butterfly Effect Wellbeing has had the valuable experience of engaging with the BBC’s DIY SOS team, which helped shine a national spotlight on the importance of community‑based mental health support. The involvement highlighted both the urgent need for safe, welcoming spaces for people in emotional crisis and the dedication of our volunteers and peer leads. Being connected with DIY SOS reinforced the credibility of our work, boosted community awareness, and strengthened local support for our mission to save lives through compassion, dignity, and human connection.
The involvement with BBC DIY SOS had a significant and lasting impact on Butterfly Effect Wellbeing’s work. It brought national visibility to the realities of suicide prevention and community mental health support, helping to validate the importance of our peer‑led model. This exposure increased local awareness and understanding of the needs faced by people in crisis and reduced stigma around accessing support.
As a direct result, we experienced an increase in community engagement, referrals, and volunteer interest. Individuals who had previously felt isolated or unsupported told us they felt more confident reaching out after seeing our work recognised publicly. The experience also strengthened our credibility with partners, funders, and professionals, reinforcing trust in our safeguarding, governance, and impact.
Most importantly, the DIY SOS experience energised our team and community, reaffirming that our work saves lives and matters. It helped us build momentum, strengthen our voice, and continue developing a safe, compassionate space for people who otherwise fall through the gaps in mental health provision.
