I first saw the work of The Butterfly Effect when I dropped off surplus plants from my greenhouse for one of their local fundraising events. I had followed the charity for a number of years, but seeing first-hand the vital difference they make within the local community really brought it home to me.
After 25 years working as a training and development specialist in the corporate world, I reached a point where I wanted to use my skills and experience in a more human, values-led way — and spend a little more time in my greenhouse too.
Last year, after practising yoga for over 10 years, I took the plunge and retrained as a yoga teacher. While much of my professional experience translated naturally into the wellbeing space, that journey also highlighted how inaccessible wellbeing support can be for many people.
While I don’t currently have the capacity for regular frontline volunteering, I do have skills that can support the charity’s work in practical and strategic ways. For me, this role is about stepping forward and contributing where I can to help ensure vital wellbeing support is available and accessible to everyone, regardless of their means.
